Fleeting moments

I often subdivide summertime by the time of the flowers that are blooming. It all starts with tulip time. Then, it is forsythia time. Lilac time leads into rhododendron time. Peony time. Flowers bloom such a short time. All year builds up to peonies, and then it is a few days and the wonder is gone. Sometimes I think the same happens in life. A long build up to marriage, graduation, a baby’s birth. Then the day arrives, and it is a day, a day as long and as short as any other day, and the day is gone. Fleeting moments.

This is why we invented holidays. To make those fleeting moments all blown out moments and so that we remember.
